The project is a twinning arrangement between OKI (National Institute of Public Education) and Cito, making available Cito's experience developing material for testing academic skills and competences. A valid framework operationalising these requirements is the basis of this study. Based on this framework a test instrument is developed to determine the capability of individual students to successfully follow specific academic studies. This instrument is tested on Dutch and Hungarian students. The tests will be validated. Conclusions about the predictive value of the instrument can be drawn after a longitudinal study in which the students are followed during their academic career. Research will have to show the suitability of using such an instrument as an (additional) means of student advising and selection.
