Monitoring and Evaluation System for Pre-schoolers
Cito offers a special monitoring and evaluation system for pre-schoolers (aged 3- 6). The system provides early childhood education teachers with an objective programme for monitoring every aspect of the preschooler’s development.
The monitoring and evaluation system, which utilises observation lists as well as tests, can be used to measure both individual development and the proficiency level of an entire group or class. The system also provides a useful computer program for organising and reporting test results.
Monitoring pre-schooler development
Teachers observe their pupils in order to find out whether they feel at ease in their group, complete their work with pleasure and are developing as expected. On the basis of such observations teachers are able to provide specialised educational support – for example by making games more meaningful and/or prioritising specific developmental areas. A teacher's knowledge and experience will tell him or her where further attention is needed and what kind of support is in order. It is difficult, however, for teachers to objectify their observations. Cito’s systematic approach allows teachers to combine their own judgment with objectified data on a child's development. The addition of concrete data is very useful for identifying specific issues and developing specialised educational programmes.
The tests and observation lists
The tests and observation lists are intended for use every six months, thus following preschoolers' development at the ages of 3 years, 3.5 years and 4 years. The tests allow teachers to objectively evaluate cognitive skills and the observation lists are used to assess non-cognitive development.
Cognitive development:
- linguistic development
- reasoning
- time and space orientation
Non-cognitive development:
- personality development
- social-emotional development
- motor development
- creative development
