Monitoring and Evaluation System for Students
Beside the monitoring and evaluation system for primary education, Cito offers a monitoring and evaluation system for students for the first two years of secondary education. The system saves time. It makes use of computer-based tests, the results of which are analyzed and reported by Cito within two weeks.
Main purposes
- To help teachers monitor their students' development.
- To provide tools to help students decide on the type of schooling they should choose after their first two years in secondary education.
- To monitor the quality of the educational process.
Tests
The monitoring and evaluation system for students consists of an entrance test, a test after the first and a test after the second year of secondary school. All tests are in multiple-choice format. They are available at three levels of difficulty, starting from the lower vocational education level. The range of subjects is the same for each level:
- Dutch reading comprehension
- English reading comprehension
- Mathematics
- Study skills
Every test consists of seven assignments, each requiring 45 minutes. It is up to the teacher to determine which skill is to be tested, in which order, and when the test should be given.
Scoring and reporting service
Cito offers a scoring service and a reporting service. A student report will show what level the student has mastered per subject. The report will also compare the student with three reference groups. Gaps in a student's development will therefore become clear, showing which areas need remedial work. The report will also provide insight into how students should continue their school careers. In addition to student reports, Cito provides reports on the results of a group as a whole, as well as the school as whole. This helps to monitor the quality of education.
